From the warmth that came one day

Settled down and went its way

But another turn of events came

This was a season that was not the same

It started out as a cool breeze

That nature felt it should let go with ease

For now it was preparing something ahead

The warmer temps left for the cooler instead

As the days gone by as now it is the past

You would believe that the cold would be gone and not last

But to this day the cold is still here

You have to know that spring is near

The days have more light and are now longer

Should it be that the warmth is stronger?

But heck no, water on the roof does not drip

Frozen icicles and the ground frigid, cold has its grip

So I make a statement to Mother Nature to see

That all of that death in the winter has to let go and let it be

Please open up softly and give rebirth to what you will bring

Say bye of what is bothering you and melt to bring on spring

I await throughout winter as it was long

To enjoy the warmth and hear birds sing a song

But there are clouds in the sky that are dismal gray

Can anyone tell me that this is May?

The only hint I guess is pollen from the trees

What a way to enjoy spring as I sneeze

There is a bite in the air, silence has come

For something has ended a cycle and it is done

Love that was here is now withering away

The lushness that it was, can no longer stay

So the color starts to fade from a red to brown

The petals start to pull back and lay to the ground

Such anguish to see in this as it departs

Clenched by the coldness and hurt in its heart

But though it has to move on to make new again

So the beauty that it once was comes back to begin

Though it may not be the same as I suppose

But another will come along, that beauty is the rose
